In the Peck household, October means many things, but mostly it means Red Wings season. Yes, I know – it is officially hockey season, but hockey means Detroit Red Wings here.
My wife, She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed (Quae-pararenda-est*), has always been a hockey fan. We often went to see the MSU Spartans while we were in college together. We even went out of our way to watch the Spartans lose to the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Nanooks! (The stands were filled with Michigan State fans).
But we when moved to Detroit for a short time early in our marriage, she began to watch Channel 20. Their slogan?
We put sports in your face!
And they did. Quae-pararenda-est became a rabid Red Wings fan. (Hey, after all, who isn’t?)
While in Arizona, we became Coyotes and Sundogs fans, but nothing superceded the Red Wings. Now we prepare ourselves for the carnage which can follow a Red Wings loss. It is a gloomy, dark rest-of-the-day when that happens! Look out!
Mostly though, it is family fun. Sometimes at home, sometimes at Buffalo Wild Wings, sometimes on the internet, we are always kept appraised of the latest Red Wings excursion. It is a great season, after all, the Red Wings don’t always make the playoffs… oh wait… they do.
Get your hockey jerseys on – it’s Red Wings season.
* Quae-pararenda-est is the Latin language equivalent of She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed. I required my Latin classes to refer to her as such.
